There are a few ways to interact and communicate with students online. Forums and Chat are offered on eLearning and are the norm when is comes to communicating anything over the web. Attached is a PDF file describing these features and how to utilize them on eLearning.

To start a new course on eLearning you will need to contact the Innovation Center (Brad Edwards ext.389 or Jason Julius ext.305). They will setup a new course for you. You will need to provide the course number and title.

eLearning is completely accessible from anywhere in the world. All you need is a connection to the internet, type in http://online.lakeareatech.edu/elearning . No excuses for not being able to get the assignments anymore.

Go to your course settings and add and enrollment key to your course. This key is a one time password and will eliminate unwanted enrollments.

There are a lot of different variables that determine exactly how long it takes to design the course. There are some things in this list that speed things up for you.

  • Have all of your course files (powerpoint, word docs etc...) organized
  • Have "High Speed" internet
  • The courses get easier to build with practice.

 

If you are using Internet Explorer, there is a plugin you can use to check your spelling. To install it click here. Below you will find step-by-step directions to install IESpell.

  1. If a yellow bar appears at the top of the browser, right click it and select "download file".
  2. Next you will see a popup box with the options: "Run" or "Save", click on the "Run" button.
  3. You may also see another popup box with the options "Run" or "Don't Run"
  4. Next a box will ask you to agree to the license agreement, click on "I Agree"
  5. Then you are presented with the option to install the software. Click on "Install"
  6. After installation you will be asked if you want to check for updates, select "No"
  7. Finally a popup informs you that installation is complete, press "OK"
  8. Close Internet Explorer to allow the changes to take effect

 

Once you have IESpell installed, simply right click on the webpage you would like to check and choose "Check Spelling". If the option isn't there try closing Internet Explorer and reopening it.
